Health is....

Health comes of a healthy lifestyle

Eat less. Eat whole foods. The more you eat, the less energy you have; less food generates more energy. Drink one quart of water for every 50 lbs you weigh, let water be a lot of your food.

Because it is. If you are what you eat, you’re 70% water. The brain is over 90% water; eat up the water. After 6pm, just have liquids, soups, sops, sups, that’s why it’s called supper.

Move more. The more you move, the more you can move; the less you do, the less you can do. Movement generates health energy.

Relax. Sit in a hot tub, on a porch, lay in the sun, swing under a shade tree, listen to your favorite music, get a massage, do a colonic, make love, have a glass of organic wine or a couple of natural unforced beers.

Sleep. Lay down for eight hours. No more, no less. It’s an Ancient wisdom that works. You don’t even need to be asleep, don’t stress over it if your not. If you are asleep, all the better. The less you eat, the better you sleep. The better you sleep the less food you feel you need. Less food equals more energy to move and the ability to do. The more you move and do, the easier it is to relax. The more you relax, the better you sleep.

This creates health. You feel well. Look well. You enjoy life well. You do well. You are disease free, you recover from injury faster, and your imagination works better.

When life throws you challenges you say, “Bring it!”

As more and more people are discovering health through self care by making simple “life style” changes. The pharmaceutical drug lords are shifting their, “cultural medical marketing” to a more dubious role of “life style enhancers.” In order for consumers to avoid the frustration and trauma of making a personal change that is somehow founded upon character, will, desire and a modicum of self-discipline, they can simply pop steroids to appear younger, stronger and more athletic.

They can pop Prozac and appear to be a more focused business person, or even take Viagra in order to avoid the embarrassment of the fact you’re probably not excited by the person you’re with, or, you can make her really feel it with, “Enzyte.”

What is it going to mean in the near future, to be human? Undoubtedly thousands of medicines will shift from medicinal to “supportives” of “enhanced” life styles, while delivering a drug-fulfilled experience of life.

Knowledge is your key to changing your situation, and by sharing this knowledge I’m empowering you with the first step to putting an end to the strong-arm tactics of the "Sick-Care" industry.

Martial Art Kicks Cancer Out of Here

The Chinese refer to life’s energy flow as chi, also spelt qi. Chi, or energy, is the core and basic foundation of all of their methods for healing. Tai chi is a method of manipulating chi through controlled movements or postures. It is a martial art, and is now recognized as a remedy to assist patients of chronic illnesses or cancer when they are in a weak state of body and mind.

Since the chi and the human body have to work in harmony, it is believed that through a series of precise movements, the energy field within is revitalized. In other words, the movements are designed to bring about a change in the chi flow to the body and mind. When the chi is flowing uninterrupted a person is healthy, but when someone becomes ill it is necessary to perform these movements to energize and return the chi to a normal flow. This basic concept is also a focus of other energy-healing techniques, like Reiki and Qigong.

Tai chi is similar to a dance, in that each movement is followed by a counter-movement that perfectly coincides with the previous movement in the opposite direction. This is a perfect balancing technique that is slow, yet graceful, similar to a choreographed performance. Concentration on proper breathing from the diaphragm is also critical. Progress with Tai chi is ultimately followed by increased muscle mass and tone, flexibility, improved posture, stamina, and even improved balance in a person’s stature. It is through repetition and mastery of technique that a higher and healthier attainment of strength and well being is achieved. Cardiovascular benefits are another result from the carefully articulated and focused breathing throughout each movement of the body.

This martial art is a great exercise for everyone, there are many testimonials urging the use of Tai chi during cancer treatments. Though it is not a direct cure for certain ailments and cancer, it helps ease the pain of treatments, relieve stress, and promotes immune system function. Martha McInnis, a breast cancer survivor, learned about using Tai chi as an integrative medicine when she was undergoing radiation, and hails that Tai chi made her live better and gather the strength to fight her cancer with full force. Many doctors agree with Martha, and recommend patients diagnosed with an aggressive or low-survivability rate cancer, to adopt a complementary therapy.

So far there have been positive results in patients with deadly cancers like non-hodgkin’s lymphoma, pleural mesothelioma, or pancreatic cancer. The increased wholeness and wellness in the whole body is what doctors and patients claim to be the benefit of using Tai Chi with conventional cancer treatments.

We spoke to Dr Bill Davison about Genes and how they relate to our health and how much of our life is predetermined by our genes. A very interesting interview and surprising in many ways. 25 March 2011 - Goals and Change and Biocybernetics

Hello!

Hope you are having a fabulous week!

This will be the second last Total Vitality for a couple of weeks as I have become super busy with work and planning a wedding, that I've had to scale some things back a bit, so i'll be taking a few weeks off and then see how I can manage the workload :)

This week I checked out those little green trees I love so much - that's right - BROCCOLI!!
Full of super goodness and you can find the fact sheet right here:
BROCCOLI

Also we spoke to Fiona Cosgrove and Dr Bill Davison and you will find their contact details and the audio of our interviews below.

Have a wonderfully safe and healthy week!
Many best wishes!

Today we speak to Fiona about the next stage of creating long term change in your health and wellness. It is always important to start with a vision and create strong goals around what you'd like to achieve, but what happens when obstacles come up? How do you get around them and push through to achieving those ideals you long for?

Last time I spoke to Dr Bill we discussed an interesting topic - that of Biocybernetics! I'd never heard the term before and didn't quite know what it meant. But after chatting for a while it became clear that all the influences of our lives have created beliefs, patterns and habits in our minds. Some of them obviously are very beneficial and help us to live our day-to-day lives.
But some of them it seems hold us back. They stop us from losing weight, they make us continue smoking, they cause us to fear certain things and maybe even contribute to a low self-esteem or self-worth. These patterns are obviously not helping us and so why not find a way to turn them around so that you can get more out of life, do more, be more, achieve more! Well lucky enough Dr Bill knows all about Biocybernetics and practices it in his clinic, which is why I decided to see him for a consultation. The technique is very powerful and works nicely with other work i've done with NLP, hypnosis, affirmations etc. Except this seems to be an easy, painless way for everybody to help themselves in whatever area they feel needs help. Whether that be weight loss, self belief, phobias, habits, careers or relationships.
Dr Bill is holding a number of FREE seminars in Sydney over April - for more information contact Dr Bill on the above contact details.

Wellness Coaching - Coach yourself to wellness, Quinoa, Health and Fitness Expos - 28 February 2011

Hello!

Hope you're all in for another super healthy, fit and energetic week!

This week starts a new month! Always an exciting time as you can reset your goals and plan again to achieve all you wanted!

My new goal for this month is to lose those last 3kg for once and for all and to tone up and get some muscle definition! I'm desperate to have Michelle Bridges arms - so toned even when not flexed!

I have a wedding to train for in a year - so now is the time to flick the switch in the body and the brain and get focussed!
Also it's time to train my mum while she is staying with me. She's not as excited by it as i am and i know it is more her mind that is holding her back, so that is something we need to work on over the next few weeks!

Listen out for next week's Total Vitality show as I have a chat to Dr Bill Davison about a great technique that is perfect for breaking through mind issues and limiting beliefs!

And in 3 weeks i also start my NLP certification which i'm so so so excited about!

But on to this week!
:)
A great SNACK BITE for today and an awesome interview with wellness coach Fiona Cosgrove.

Feel free to leave comments below and let me know what you want to learn in the upcoming weeks!

Stay healthy and happy!
xx

NUT MILK RECIPE

NUT MILK RECIPE

Thanks to Joy from FRUVENU for this great recipe. Feel free to email me at jewlzz.a@gmail.com if you'd like help or have any questions, otherwise feel free to check out Joy's website and ask her any health questions you have!
www.fruvenu.com.au
Joy does some wonderful in-home food workshop that you'll love and learn a lot from!!

You can also use any sort of nuts you like. I love Hazelnut milk, but of course almonds, brazils etc also make great flavours!
(PS. Sometimes I brew some caffeine free chai herbs from T2 to my water before i mix it in with the nuts so i have a chai latte all ready whenever i want it! Yummy hot or cold!)

Joy's Tasty Raw Tips
Almond Nut Milk

Free Recipe!
Ingredients: 100gm Raw Almonds, a few pitted dates, 750ml filtered water

Method:   Soak a handful of almonds, approx. 100gm for 12-24 hours in some water (preferably filtered).  Drain. They swell up to double their size and are much easier to digest when soaked.

Almonds are a good source of calcium and healthy fats.

You can use them unpeeled (but if you prefer to remove the skins,  pour almost boiling water onto them, wait a minute and then using a spoon, lift out one at a time and squeeze between fingers and thumb.  The skin should slide off easily.  If it doesn’t your water was not hot enough.)
Yes I know it sounds like a lot of hard work but it goes surprisingly quickly. How much time do you spend in front of the TV or yakking on the phone?  If you’re doing a lot of nuts at once, get someone in the family to help out.

Soak some dried pitted dates tin water 12-24 hours. Do not drain.  The water gets syrupy and sweet and the dates soften. Blend the nuts in 750ml filtered water, optional - add the dates with soak liquid = sweet almond milk.

If you are just using the milk to pour on cereal or raw muesli you won’t need to strain the mixture. Otherwise pour the liquid through a nut milk bag - muslin/cheesecloth etc. (I have used a lingerie wash bag before)  Keep the nut pulp for using in other recipes.
The nut milk should keep in the fridge in a glass jar for 4-7 days. Just check toward the 4 day mark to make sure it still smells ok.

OESTROGEN DOMINANCE, PELVIC FLOOR, FOODS AND MENTAL HEALTH - 21 February 2011

Hello!

Hope you are having a wonderfully healthy and happy week!
Lots of stuff on today's show - and all the audio and fact sheets are below!

I've just come back from an awesome 4 day weekend in Russel in The Bay of Islands in New Zealand. An absolutely spectacular place, gorgeous scenery, beautiful sunny, warm weather and 2 full days out on the water catching fish - King fish, snapper, couple of sharks and some NZ fish. The big job was to catch some Marlin but it seemed they were getting caught on other people's lines and not our own!
Next time!
But we had an awesome waterfront villa and ate some of the best meals i've ever eaten, including the last night's big cook up of freshly caught fish by us and some chips and salad and vegies!
YUM YUM
The chips were a bit naughty but they were really good shoestring fries so at least they were enjoyable.

On today's show we talk about some different and highly nutritious SNACK BITES and all the info is right here for you!

Jenny has mentioned the pelvic floor in many of her interviews. We hear about it when discussing pregnancy with women, it is mentioned in pilates and yoga classes and it's apparently tricky to find within yourself. So what is the pelvic floor and how do we keep it in top condition - for both men and women.

Joy and I were discussing living foods a few weeks ago and she mentioned how foods can affect our moods, our mental state and even influence depression. I have had experience with this in my own and my family's life and so too had Joy. She was kind enough to share her story with us today and let us know some facts she's discovered over the years on how normal, everyday foods can affect us mentally. We are constantly seeing ads on TV and hearing specialists and GP's referring to the condition of IBS. It seems any irritation to do with your digestion, bowels etc can be diagnosed as IBS. Which is difficult when it comes to actually solving the problem and gaining relief from the symptoms. For those that are not happy with just taking the pills and potions to mask the problem, Dr Bill might be able to provide you some insight in to this condition and some natural ways of dealing and treating the issue.

Although we did not have Joy on the show today, last week I was invited by Joy and Caitlin to a raw living foods workshop. Joy is a living foods demonstrator and runs workshops for families, preschools and child care centres and I was delighted to finally attend one and learn some tips in making great, fun, healthy and tasty raw meals. Caitlin lives with her husband and baby son and regularly with her 4 step-daughters.
I was very grateful to be asked by Joy and welcomed by Caitlin to join their family workshop. We had an absolutely fantastic time, the kids enjoyed playing with the food and learning fun, new ways to eat and I was very pleased to take home some super tasty recipes as well as my big belly full of yummy foods we were able to make and taste during the workshop. Below are some photos from the day and also my chat with Caitlin about what it's like to introduce kids and family to a raw foods lifestyle.
For all the details on having your own Raw Living Foods Workshop, visit FRUVENU at their website and contact Joy for more information.
